Chapter 5. Satisfaction and Comfort

Overview

Consumer satisfaction and comfort are key issues that need to be considered in AT assessment. Satisfaction is an attitude about a service, a product, a service provider, or an individual's health status. Measuring consumer satisfaction provides AT specialists' success at meeting consumer needs and expectations. Measurement of satisfaction is also essential for tracking how the consumer's use of the device evolves over time. The Quebec User Evaluation of Satisfaction with Assistive Technology (QUEST) is an outcomes-measurement instrument designed to evaluate a person's satisfaction with his or her AT device. In the context of AT, a consumer's comfort is not always considered to be an important criterion. It is important for rehabilitation professionals to consider a person's psychological and physical comfort. Knowing the sources of user comfort and the reasons for any discomfort can help explain the reasons for use, nonuse, or abandonment of the AT.
