Extremity Constraint-Induced Therapy Evaluation
(EXCITE) Trial. Funded by NICHD, NCMRR,
and NINDS of NIH; Grant HD37606-03; 4/1/00-3/31/05;
$994,167. The purpose of this national clinical
trial is to test the efficacy of upper-extremity
Constraint-Induced Movement therapy for persons
with subacute stroke. The subcontract listed
funds the UAB treatment site and the training
center for entire trial. Trial P.I. is S. Wolf.
UAB site and Training Center P.I. is E. Taub.
I was appointed as a collaborating investigator
in 12/02 and function as Co-P.I. of the UAB
component (effort = 20%).
A Treatment for Excess Motor Disability in
the Aged. Funded by National Center for
Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) of NIH
with dual assignment to the National Institute
of Aging (NIA); Grant HD34273; 12/9/96-11/30/03;
$932,000. The goals are to test and develop
upper-extremity Constraint-Induced Movement
therapy for persons with chronic stroke. P.I.
is E. Taub. I was appointed as a collaborating
investigator in 12/02 (effort = 10%).
Constraint Induced Movement Therapy (CIMT)
for Stroke Rehabilitation. Funded by Florida
Department of Health Biomedical Research Program;
2002-2004; $400,000. The goals are to test the
necessity of specific entrance criteria for
CIMT and the effectiveness of alternative delivery
methods. P.I. is K. Light. I am a consultant
on ambulatory monitoring of arm movement.
Psychological Strengths in Vietnam War Veterans
with PTSD. Funded by U.S. Department of
Veterans Affairs, VISN 2 Research Incentive
Funds; 12/1/01-11/30/03; $18,500. The purpose
is to explore the role of psychological strengths
in the recovery of Vietnam veterans with PTSD.
P.I. is T. Julian. I am Co-P.I.
Psychological Strengths in the Everyday Life
of Vietnam War Veterans and Matched Controls
Funded by Positive Psychology Network; 2/1/03-11/30/03;
$1,800. The goal is compare the function of
psychological strengths in Vietnam veterans
with PTSD to their function in healthy controls.
P.I. is T. Kashdan. I am a collaborating investigator.
A Treatment for Excess Motor Disability in
the Aged. Funded by National Center for
Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR) of NIH;
Grant HD34273; 8/1/03-7/31/08; $1,744,195. The
purpose is to examine the effects of varying
treatment intensity and duration on upper-extremity
Constraint-Induced Movement therapy outcomes
for persons with chronic stroke. P.I. is E.
Taub. I am Co-P.I. (effort = 10%). Priority
score is well within fundable range.
Accelerometry: A New Approach to Real-World
Outcome Measurement in Rehabilitation. Funded
by James S. McDonnell Foundation; Grant JSMF
97-41; 1/1/98-12/31/00; $90,000. The purpose
was to develop accelerometery as an objective
measure of upper extremity rehabilitation outcome.
I was the P.I. E. Taub was a senior collaborating
investigator.
