WILLIAM
STIERS, PH.D.
Dr. Stiers is a faculty member in the Department
of Physical Medicine and
Rehabilitation at Johns Hopkins University School
of Medicine, where he:
* provides psychological evaluation and treatment
of persons with
spinal cord injury, burns, amputations, multiple
sclerosis, neuromuscular
disorders, chronic pain, injured workers, and
other physical disabilities.
* provides neuropsychological evaluation and
treatment of persons with
stroke or cerebral aneurysm, traumatic brain
injury, brain tumor, multiple
sclerosis, dementia, and other conditions of
the brain.
Dr. Stiers' research includes studying the
structure, process, and outcome of Rehabilitation
Psychology training programs. He also has a
number of grants and publications related to
studies of stroke. He is interested in clinical
rehabilitation outcomes in health care systems,
and how these relate to the organization, delivery,
and effectiveness of care.
Dr. Stiers completed his doctoral degree in
Counseling Psychology at Northwestern University,
and then worked as a Senior Research Health
Scientist in Health Services Research at the
Department of Veterans Affairs, involving health
services outcomes research, program evaluation,
and multi-site clinical trials. He later completed
a 2-year post-doctoral clinical fellowship in
Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology
at the
University of Michigan, and then served in the
Department of Rehabilitation Medicine at the
University of Kansas Medical Center, providing
clinical evaluation and treatment of persons
with brain injuries and physical
disabilities before moving to Johns Hopkins
University in Baltimore in 2005. He Dr. Stiis
board certified in Rehabilitation Psychology
by the American Board of Professional psychology,
and is a licensed psychologist.
