Division 22 Awards

It is again time to honor the best and the most accomplished of our colleagues who have contributed so much to the field of Rehabilitation Psychology. Below is a listing of the awards that will be awarded at the APA Convention in August.

Nominations for all awards are due by the first week of April. Please nominate deserving individuals for each of the awards by submitting a brief rationale for nominating the person, a copy of the nominee’s curriculum vitae and their contact information. The information can be submitted to Kate Brown, PhD at ksbrown@hawaii.rr.com


Lifetime Achievement

This annual award is given to recognize the rehabilitation psychologist who has made distinguished contributions in their lifetime of work in the areas of practice, science, public interest, and/or education and training that advances rehabilitation psychology as a science or a profession.

Roger G. Barker Distinguished Research Contribution Award

This annual award is conferred upon an individual who is judged to have made an outstanding lifelong contribution to rehabilitation psychology through empirical research, conceptual/theoretical development or both.

Early Career Research Award

This annual award is given to persons who, while still in the first 10 years since being awarded their doctorate, have made a significant contribution to research in the area of rehabilitation psychology.


In addition to the awards listed above nominated by the membership,
at the APA Convention, the Division also gives the:

Harold Yuker Award for Research Excellence
This annual award is given to the first author of the most highly rated paper published in the journal Rehabilitation Psychology during the previous year.

Distinguished Service
This award is presented at the discretion of the Division President to honor those individuals who have made distinguished contributions to Division 22 over the past year/several years above and beyond their elected or committee appointments

Student Research Award
This award is given to recognize an outstanding graduate student in the field of rehabilitation psychology as demonstrated by their research presentation presented in poster format at the APA Convention.
