Minneapolis VAMC Spinal Cord Injury Psychologist Job Opening

 

The Minneapolis VA Medical Center is seeking applications for a full-time, permanent psychologist position located in the Extended Care and Rehabilitation Service Line Spinal Cord Injury and Disorders Center (SCI/D).  The SCI/D Center is a newly constructed 30 bed acute care facility providing inpatient and outpatient acute care, ventilator, and sub-acute rehabilitation services for patients with spinal cord injury (with and without head injury) and patients diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.  The psychologist will join a multidisciplinary team and he/she will provide psychological assessment, cognitive screening and neuropsychological assessment, psychotherapy, and psycho-education.  This includes delivering evidence-based cognitive rehabilitation interventions to improve the occupational and self-care functioning of the patients.  The primary job functions of the psychologist include the provision of direct psychological patient care, consultation services on difficult or complex cases, education of staff and trainee supervision.  He/she is required to have advanced knowledge of psychological diagnosis, intervention, behavioral health, and rehabilitation that qualifies him/her to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines, including nurses, physicians, and other mental health professionals.  Opportunities also exist for program development, other administrative responsibilities, and involvement in research.  The individual will join a large and active psychology staff of over 50 doctoral-level psychologists, with nationally known pre-doctoral, internship, and post-doctoral training programs: http://www1.va.gov/mplspsychology/.
